Steyer Seeds Purchases Majority of Horizon Genetics Assets

Steyer Seeds is expanding its footprint into Central Illinois and maintaining Horizon’s

Mason City facility as an independent seed company

Tiffin, OH. – Dec. 22, 2010 – Steyer Seeds announced today that it has purchased the majority of the operating assets of Horizon Genetics, Inc., an independent seed company based in Mason City, Ill. A definitive agreement was reached on Dec. 22, 2010.

“Purchasing the assets of Horizon is truly a win-win,” says Bernie Steyer, president, Steyer Seeds. “It enables Steyer to offer the latest resources, technology, hybrids and choice the grower needs and has come to expect from an independent seed company in Central Illinois.  This will also allow us to expand upon and more efficiently serve our current Illinois and Iowa customer base.”

By purchasing Horizon’s key assets, Steyer Seeds will be able to maintain the current Mason City facility and leverage Horizon’s existing employees, expertise, and products.
